Our Founders Story
I became the person I once desperately needed.
My name is Lydia Opiyo, and I am the founder of Passion to Share Foundation. People often ask why I started this organization. The answer is simple: I became the person I once desperately needed. I grew up in a broken family where my parents separated, and by the age of thirteen, I had lived under the care of seven different stepmothers. Instead of experiencing the love and security every child deserves, I endured years of physical and verbal abuse.
I was denied the chance to attend school and became the family’s house help — cooking, cleaning, and caring for others while losing my own childhood. One day, after a severe beating, my seventh stepmother attempted to stab me. My stepbrother intervened and saved my life. I fled home with nowhere to go. That was the darkest moment of my life, but it became the beginning of a new one!
My journey began when I was welcomed into Warm Hearts Children’s Home, where I found safety, education, love, and a family that believed in me. The kindness of volunteers inspired me to say, “I want to become just like you.” With the support of Warm Hearts Foundation and a generous American family I received education and attained my high school Diploma and a College Degree which made it possible for me to create a future for myself.
In 2019, I founded Passion to Share Foundation, and in 2020, opened our first skills training center in Kibera. Having experienced poverty myself, I understand the challenges girls face. Today, we equip vulnerable girls and young women with practical skills, mentorship, and opportunities to build independent lives. Someone once changed my life with hope.
Today, I am committed to doing the same for others.

Why Empowered to Empower
I became who I am today and founded Passion to Share Foundation through the support of Warm Hearts Foundation and a generous American family, who believed in me and supported my journey all the way to university. Their kindness inspired one dream: to become like them—to uplift others. That is the heart of our slogan, “Empowered to Empower.”
But the journey doesn’t end with me. I encourage every girl who graduates to succeed, give back, and support the next generation of girls. Together, we create a cycle of empowerment that keeps changing lives.
